Hitoshi Matsumoto's Suberanai Hanashi 7 [English Subtitles]
Hi there.
So the long wait is over, and here it is, the next installment to Hitoshi Matsumoto's Suberanai Hanashi.
Going by logical order, I should be releasing episode 6, but I decided to skip that one, as it just got comedians to retell particularly popular stories that they had told in past episodes. So basically I thought, "F** that shiz" and just did 7. Hopefully you have no problems.
As you probably noticed, I've been very very inactive on this blog recently. Unfortunately you will have to expect much of the same from now on, for about a year. I have priorities outside of subbing that require more attention now and therefore can't spend so much time doing this.
Please understand.
Anyway, here it is.

Videso Subbing: Gaki no Tsukai (2012.03.25): Tanaka's Breakdown 1
G'day people,
Time for another Gaki video from us at J-Burogu.
In this episode, the Gaki staff investigate allegations that Tanaka has become highly disturbed after the comments made by Matsumoto in "100 Things About Matsumoto" segment. Tanaka is followed by Gaki cameras for about a week to determine why and how Tanaka has changed so suddenly and drastically.
This was a nice surprise of an episode from recent Gaki episodes (oh crap, it's from like 1-2 years ago now haha), it features Tanaka's as he convincingly portrays a character highly unlike him.
Anyway, check it out.
Thanks Hadin for editing :)

Gaki no Tsukai (2006.02.26) Hamada "Unthinkable!" Trial Punishment
Hola amigos!
Yup the final part of the infamous Hamada "Unthinkable!" Trial has now been subbed, at last.
Hamada is going to be punished for his sadistic behaviour with the "Retching with the Kaeru no Uta" punishment.
Doesn't make sense? Yeah I know.
Kaeru no Uta is a popular children's song often sung in kindergarten and primary school, and translates to "The Song of the Frogs". Anyway, it's easier for you to just watch rather than me bothering to explain so here it is:

Video Subbing: Gackt on HEY!x3 MUSIC CHAMP (
Hey there people,
I thought it was about time I did something for the Gackt fans and Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ fans again after a very long time. Don't worry, I haven't completely forgotten about you people.
So, I was wondering which G video to do, and I often get asked to do recent stuff, but quite frankly, that's all too boring to sit through, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and do another old collaboration with Downtown.
Yes, there was a recent one of him appearing on Downtown DX and even Heyx3 before the show ended but.....I dunno, I find the older videos funnier. There were also many other people that talk in between that weren't funny for those videos so yeah, the thought of just having to listen to them again after watching it the first time killed those options. For now at least. Maybe once I more or less forget what they talked about. Except by then, they'd probably be old videos.......fuck
Anyway, maybe I'll try and force myself through a recent one, or maybe not even watch it first and go straight into subbing.
Who knows. Stay tuned.

Video Subbing: Lincoln (2012.05.01) No SATNAV Rally
G'day folks!
I've fiiiiiinallly done another Lincoln episode.
I think it has been several months since the last one.
Too long, I know, but I didn't even realise that much time had passed.
I'm more busy than when I started subbing, and it's just so time consuming....especially if it's an episode that goes for 40+ minutes.
I was wondering which episode to do and remember reading that a lot of people on the GnT fan forum wanted subs for the No SATNAV Rally episode when it first aired. So here it is.
If people want to ask for specific Lincoln episodes, I'll totally consider them, as I'm planning on doing more of this series anyway of my own accord yet only have a handful of episodes that I am personally planning to do.
So yes, make some suggestions if you want. Just don't expect it all to be done though.
I'll be probably be doing a Suberanai Hanashi next, but it may be something else.
I dunno.

Serina was a former member of the idol group SDN48. She was in the "centre position", basically the most popular and gets the most air time in videos etc. She's noticeable for her highly squeeky anime-like voice, which, in my opinion, can get pretty annoying some times. But sometimes it's cute. How strange.....
Sorry about all the raunchy photos. I just find the so much more interesting...haha
Sonmi is a fashion model and daughter of a ultra rich man who owns a casino in Macau. That might have something to do with why she's a model....since she's not really that....good loo...well not model level looks. This photo is nice though.

KANTO and KANSAI
Kanto is the name given roughly to the area around the east coast of the center of Japan. This includes Tokyo, Chiba and Kanagawa etc. (wikipedia)
Kansai (or Kinki) is west of Kanto, and includes places like Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures. A lot of comedians tend to come from this area and there are some distinct cultural differences and a friendly rivalry between Kanto and Kansai. (wikipedia)
Also, these were these areas inspired the first two maps on the Pokemon games. The rest of the games modelled their maps on other areas of Japan.
TOKYO's 23 WARDS
The city of Tokyo is broken up into 23 wards, basically 23 different areas. Like the boroughs of New York, they each have their own council and stuff. (wikipedia)
GINZA PEDESTRIAN PARADISE
Ginza is a popular upper class shopping district. On the weekends, between 12:00 noon to 5pm, the roads are closed to cars in the main shopping area. This allows pedestrians to walk around freely on the streets between shops without fear of being run over/waiting for traffic lights. Hence why it's a pedestrian paradise.
SKYTREE
Is the new broadcasting tower that finished being built last year in Tokyo. It is the tallest tower in the world, unless if it has been overtaken already (People are always trying to build bigger buildings and stuff....). It replaced the Tokyo Tower in its TV broadcasting duties, as it was no longer able to transmit digital signals well enough anymore. This was because too many high buildings were built around it lol.

Video Subbing [REQUEST]: Gaki no Tsukai (2006.02.12) Hamada "Unthinkable!" Trial, Part 1
Hey everyone!
How's life?
I've got another video sub for you! This time its a fairly overdue Gaki no Tsukai video. Actually, many series are much longer overdue....like Suberanai Hanashi and Lincoln. I promise to be doing episodes from those series next.
It's also the first request in a long while, although I had always intended to do this episode and the remaining two parts of the trilogy. You may probably know that Hamada Masatoshi from Downtown can be one evil bastard. He loves to hurt people, he loves watching people being in pain, and many legends exist about his outrageous and abusive behaviour towards his comedian peers. For this, he has even been given the knickname Super S Hamada, with "S" standing for "Sadistic".
Now it's time for his victims to be avenged, and for him to be judged and punished for his unthinkable acts of (super) sadism.
It's time to open court for.....the Hamada "Unthinkable!" Trial!......err part 1.

Video Subbing [REQUEST]: Gaki no Tsukai (2006.04.02) Goto Terumoto Shichihenge
Hey there everyone!
Thanks for you patience waiting for a subbed video while I finished uni exams.
I probably did okay although I'm not too sure about some.....haaa
I thought that it was about time for another "Gaki no Tsukai" especially since al4bandi was kind enough to time it once more. It also didn't take too long because there isn't as much talking in this one.
Shichihenge is a long running segment of this show where a comedian does seven transformations (that's what shichihenge means) and tries to make the Gaki no Tsukai crew laugh. Whoever that fails to hold in a laugh must pay up 1000 yen and put it into a box. You are judged on the total amount made and put on a list to compare with other comedians. Oh, and the money goes to some sort of charity if you're wondering. At least, it's supposed to.
This time around it's the turn of Goto Terumoto, the straight man from the duo Football Hour.
Hope you enjoy!

Video Subbing [REQUEST]: Gaki no Tsukai: Heipo Horror Shichihenge (2006.09.10)
Hello!
Thanks for your patience, here's the first video sub after one month of break time.
Quite a few people asked me for this one to be done so felt like getting it done so no more of you will ask me anymore!
In this episode the Gaki team tease Heipo by scaring him with various disguises. If you're not that familiar with the Gaki no Tsukai series, Heipo is the producer (or director?) of the show and is known to have an extremely high sense of fear towards just about anything unexpected. Some of the things he gets scared at is so ridiculous that it seems fake but who knows?
Also, they say this epsiode is an altered version of the shichihenge series. I don't think any have been subbed yet so I'll explain what it is: Firstly, "shichi-henge" means "7 Transformations". The premise of the series is that they are in a meeting to decide on new projects for the show. One person goes out of the room and comes back in "transformed" and tries to make the others laugh somehow. This is done seven times and each time someone laughs 1000 yen is put in a box to be donated to a charity foundation. The aim is to make the most people laugh, and get the highest amount of money in the box.
This is time it's 1000 yen for each time Heipo gets scared and the others take turns to scare him.
So anyway, hope you enjoy it.

Before the 90's most Japanese comedians studied under a veteran comedian, who they refer to as "shishou" (Master). Hey hey hey

I've got another video for ya!
It's one of those extra footage episodes of the No Laughing Batsu Game series. I was asked to do whatever one I felt like so I chose the police department one, for no particular reason really. Just picked the first one that I found.
It might be better to re-watch the full one before watching this (maybe?). It might make it a bit funnier so that you'll remember the premise and stuff but whatever...you can decide for yourselves.
I've never watched a subbed version of this so I don't really know how the others are done but I hope mine are good enough. I've bothered to sub most of the text that pops up on the screen too since it's a popular series. Well, I hope you enjoy it!

NAGARE HAGIWARA
Is an actor and talent. He's known for liking to where cowboy style clothes. He's also quite famous as a pervert. I suppose that's why he's at the brothel.
W JEANS PANTS
Tanaka and Matsumoto were dressed up as Matsuda Yusaku in his role from the popular 1980's police show "Taiyo ni Hoero" (Howl at the Sun). The "What the heck is that!" line that Matsumoto does at the end is a take on Matsuda's famous line when he dies "What the heck is this!?". This line, and the way it is said is very famous, and you'll hear it everywhere on Japanese TV. That character's nickname was also "Jeans pants" because he always wore jeans. Hence the name "W Jeans pants" for the Matsumoto + Tanaka combo. Also, Yutaro, the guy holding a large wine glass that often appears in the Gaki series is also a parody of a character off this show played by Ishihara Yujiro.
KUWATA KEISUKE
Is a very famous solo singer and vocalist for the band Southern All-Stars. I've written about him a lot of times in these translation notes, so that goes to show how much of a big pop culture icon he is. He and his band are one of the most successful and influential artists for what is now called J-Pop.
MORI SHINICHI
Mori Shinichi is one of the most famous enka and kayoukyoku singers. Enka is a traditional style of Japanese singing whereas Kayoukyoku is the precursor to "J-Pop". It's basically the popular music prior to the 1980's which are influenced by Western music but still have a Japanese feel to it (J-pop is even more Westernized). He's known for his husky voice and kind of strange looking mouth lol. He's really old now and it looks like he's going to die while singing on stage but he's still awesome.
CARP STREAMERS/ KOINOBORI
These are things that people hang up on poles on May 5th, "Children's Day". They get flapped around in the wind like flags do, making them look as though they are swimming. There are (usually) three carps; the biggest one is the dad, the second biggest is the mother and the smallest the son. If their are more sons then they add more (with different colours). What about daughters? They're not important enough. Haha nah, don't worry, girls have their own day called Hinamatsuri on the 3rd of March.
SHIMAKI JOUJI
Shimaki Jouji is a veteran comedian now mainly known for his role in the Yoshimoto Shin-kigeki, a comedic stage play performed at the Namba Grand Kagetsu. One of his staple jokes involve banging his head with a pair of ash trays.

Video Subbing: LINCOLN (2009.03.03) Ariyoshi Hiroyuki Classroom
Heya, here's another video sub for you. It's an episode from the show, "Lincoln", which I've done once before. That was quite a while ago and had good feedback about it so I thought it should be about time to do another one. This time it features the comedian, Ariyoshi Hiroyuki, giving a lecture to the Lincoln crew about things they do wrong and how they should improve. Ariyoshi is now very popular and famous for being fearlessly rude, and giving other people nasty nicknames. This episode was aired in 2009, which was when he started to gain popularity again with this style. Previously in the early~mid 1990's he shot to stardom as the comedy duo "Saruganseki", through a show called "Susume! Denpa Shonen" which showed they hitchiking around the world. They then released a hit single called "Shiroi Kumo No Youni" (Just like white clouds). Their popularity suddenly took a quick downward turn and barely got any jobs for around 7~8 years. He refers to this period in his biography as "seeing hell".
After his second break, he is now probably the most busy comedian in Japan, appearing regularly and as guests on many shows.
Ohh and I've cut out a segment from the middle, which was a mini semi-documentary about the comedian Degawa Tetsuro. It was kinda boring and I couldn't be stuffed doing it....

Video Subbing [REQUEST]: Murakami Shoji Ninja Class from GAKI NO TSUKAI YA ARAHENDE! (2006.09.17)
Gudentaag!
University has recommenced for me this week, so I won't be getting as much time to work on subtitling. I still will try to when I have the time to but they probably won't be released as often as before. Better than nothing though.
Here's an episode from the long running show, Downtown's "Gaki no Tsukai Ya Arahende". This show has a very strong following on the internet by people around the world, largely thanks to their 24 hour batsu games, which have been uploaded by some people onto youtube. Even if you don't know what I'm talking about already, you quite probably have seen some before. The most famous seems to be a comedian called Jimmy Ohnishi trying to count in English but says, "ten ten" instead of 20 and "ten ten ten" instead of 30 and so on.
If you haven't seen it.................WATCH IT! You are missing out on one of the greatest pleasures of this earth.
I'll be happy to give you links if you can't be bothered searching yourselves.
So this video is the first volume of Murakami Shoji's Classroom Series. It's the only one I have seen so far, as there are so many Gaki episodes to watch, I haven't gotten around to them yet. There seem to be lots of interesting sounding ones (such as pirates and Ghostbuster classes) so I'm curious as to what they're like. Well anyway, for their first lesson they learn how to be ninja..........sort of.
Thanks to al4bandi for the timing :D

MURAKAMI SHOJI
Murakami Shoji is a veteran comedian mostly famous for his 'suberi' comedy, which basically means 'not funny' comedy. Kind of paradoxical, but the laughs are due to the awkward atmosphere it creates rather than the actual joke. He is the senior of all of the gang here, including Downtown (notice how Hamada called him 'big bro'). He has a long history with Downtown as well as the comedian Akashiya Sanma and often appears on their shows.
YAGYU CLAN
The Yagyu Clan were a powerful clan of feudal lords and also founders of one of the most famous styles of swordsmanship, the Yagyu Shinkage-ryu. They were also very close to the Tokugawa family, who were the rulers of Japan at the time, by teaching them sword fighting and kind of being their elite squad of samurai.
IGA and KOGA
These are the names of the two most famous Ninja clans/provinces. I'll let wikipedia do the explaining.
The Iga and Kōga clans have come to describe families living in the province of Iga (modern Mie Prefecture) and the adjacent region of Kōka (later written as Kōga), named after a village in what is now Shiga Prefecture. From these regions, villages devoted to the training of ninja first appeared.[25] The remoteness and inaccessibility of the surrounding mountains may have had a role in the ninja's secretive development.[24] Historical documents regarding the ninja's origins in these mountainous regions are considered generally correct.[26] The chronicle Go Kagami Furoku writes, of the two clans' origins:
Following the Battle of Okehazama in 1560, Tokugawa employed a group of eighty Kōga ninja, led by Tomo Sukesada. They were tasked to raid an outpost of the Imagawa clan. The account of this assault is given in the Mikawa Go Fudoki, where it was written that Kōga ninja infiltrated the castle, set fire to its towers, and killed the castellan along with 200 of the garrison.[31] The Kōga ninja are said to have played a role in the later Battle of Sekigahara (1600), where several hundred Kōga assisted soldiers under Torii Mototada in the defence of Fushimi Castle.[32] After Tokugawa's victory at Sekigahara, the Iga acted as guards for the inner compounds of Edo Castle, while the Kōga acted as a police force and assisted in guarding the outer gate.[30] In 1614, the initial "winter campaign" at the Siege of Osaka saw the ninja in use once again. Miura Yoemon, a ninja in Tokugawa's service, recruited shinobi from the Iga region, and sent 10 ninja into Osaka Castle in an effort to foster antagonism between enemy commanders.[33] During the later "summer campaign", these hired ninja fought alongside regular troops at the Battle of Tennōji.[33]
HADAKA NO TAISHO
Hadakano Taisho was a drama shown between 1980~1994. In short, it's about a wandering artist that goes to various towns and ends up settling disputes of the people he meets. The main character is a fat slobby looking kind of guy.

TRANSLATION NOTES
Likewise, a supplement to the Nochi Kagami, a record of the Ashikaga shogunate, confirms the same Iga origin:There was a retainer of the family of Kawai Aki-no-kami of Iga, of pre-eminent skill in shinobi, and consequently for generations the name of people from Iga became established. Another tradition grew in Kōga.[26]
A distinction is to be made between the ninja from these areas, and commoners or samurai hired as spies or mercenaries. Unlike their counterparts, the Iga and Kōga clans produced professional ninja, specifically trained for their roles.[21] These professional ninja were actively hired by daimyos between 1485 and 1581,[21] until Oda Nobunaga invaded Iga province and wiped out the organized clans.[28] Survivors were forced to flee, some to the mountains of Kii, but others arrived before Tokugawa Ieyasu, where they were well treated.[29] Some former Iga clan members, including Hattori Hanzō, would later serve as Tokugawa's bodyguards.[30]Inside the camp at Magari of the Shogun [Ashikaga] Yoshihisa there were shinobi whose names were famous throughout the land. When Yoshihisa attacked Rokkaku Takayori, the family of Kawai Aki-no-kami of Iga, who served him at Magari, earned considerable merit as shinobi in front of the great army of the Shogun. Since then successive generations of Iga men have been admired. This is the origin of the fame of the men of Iga.[27]

Video Subbing (Request): HEY! HEY! HEY! in USJ II, Episode 1 (2003)
Hey! Thankfully, I've found fast internet again so will be uploading bigger videos once more. It was quicker than I thought so I don't have a lot to post up but hey, better than nothing.
Here's the requested video of Hey! Hey! Hey! in Universal Studios Japan 2 from all the way back in 2003. It features a host of musician guests: Gackt, Every Little Thing, w-inds, Kiroro, MAX and Shimatani Hitomi. It's quite a long episode, around 50mins, and is only the first episode of two. I'm still working on the second episode so you'll have to wait a bit for it. I don't think there were much in there I need to explain in translation notes but if there's anything that confuses you, let me know.
