Basically it's another Shabekuri episode, that has been on request for like 2 years or something.
This time it features actors Sato Ryuta and Aso Kumiko.
Sato Ryuta is famous for his roles as hyper energetic and passionate characters, and is most notable for his part in the highschool baseball drama series, Rookies.
Aso Kumiko is a repsected actress who has won a Japanese Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and has starred in popular movies such as Pulse and Uchoten Hotel (If you've heard of them).

This time it's featuring Aoki Ryuji, a famous monomane artist, aka a professional impersonator.
He shocked many people a few years back at his ability to perform as Misora Hibari, who is one of the most famous and iconic singers in Japanese music. Well, pre-80's / 90's music anyway.
What's more impressive, or uncanny, is that Misora Hibari is a woman, whereas Aoki is a man. Due to his high pitched voice he is able to mimic many female singers very well.
Anyway, they tell all most of this stuff in the video anyway, so I'll stop.

This song was the theme song for the popular drama Rookies (based on the manga).
It's about a high school baseball team that became delinquents after thire team got suspended for starting a brawl during a match. They are then brought together by a super hyper teacher. The end.
Haha....it's actually pretty funny though, if you can handle the cheesiness of Japanese drama.

FUSE AKIRA
Famous singer from the 60's-70's. He was actually once married to Olivia Hussey, an actress who starred as Juliet from the film, Romeo and Juliet. The one directed by Franco Zeffirelli. SHIMURA KEN
He is one of Japans most famous comedians (at least to older audiences) and was a member of the Drifters, a comedy unit that was something like the Monty Python of Japan. He has many comedic characters and one of them is the "Hen na Ojisan" (The strange old man), and this was who Ueda was impersonating mainly.
TAKADA NOBUHIKO
Arita is famous for loving pro-wrestling and also for impersonating many of it's stars. Takada is one of them, and is famous for yelling "DETEKOIYA~!" which means "Get out here/ Come out here!" kinda thing. He was one of Japan's top pro-wrestlers and is often credited as being the cause of the Mixed Martial Arts boom in Japan.
CHOSHU RIKI
Another wrestler. He was famous as betraying another wrestler Fujinami Tatsuya and their feud was an ongoing story in pro-wrestling during that time. That's Arita why he yells out Fujinami in the video.
This particular one features the actor, Nakamura Toru, who first became famous for his role as Nakama Toru (yeah, very similar name) in the high school delinquent movies, Bebop High School. This turned him into a teenage heart throb among females, and a sort of a role model for delinquent kids in real life (Well at least the character from the movie). Nowadays he mainly plays hard boiled and quiet action heros, sort of like Clint Eastwood. Before watching this episode, it might help to read the post about Japanese delinquents which that I wrote a while back HERE
In the last 15 minutes or so of the episode, the K-Pop girl group, Brown Eyed Girls make an appearance. Apparently their fans weren't too pleased with the behaviour of the Shabekuri gang, as they thought they were rude and disrespectful. You'll see why they thought that....although really, it's just funny lol. I suppose it's because of the difference in Korean and Japanese television standard/ etiquette etc, but meh, who cares?
I've subbed another Shabekuri 007 video, this time featuring Oguri Shun and Naka Riisa.
Oguri Shun is a very famous male actor known mainly for his roles in the "Hana Yori Dango" drama series and the CROWS high school delinquent movies. Naka Riisa on the other hand is a moderately well known actress who nowadays usually stars in a support role in dramas and movies.
I've finally managed to finish a video. It seriously felt like it took ages for me to finish this one. (Well it did in reality).
This time on Shabekuri, a child actor from the hit drama, "Kaseifu no Mita", by the name of Honda Miyu comes to visit. I haven't watched it, but Kaseifu no Mita (Mita the Housemaid), is about some housekeeper that comes to work for a disfunctional family, and begins to rectify relationships, problems etc. Kind of like Marry Poppins (probably) but without singing and dancing, and Mita having an ice cold glare like a serial killer. That's about all I know about it lol. Oh and that the theme song is pretty cool too.
The second guest is a girl idol group called 9nine. It features one famous member called Kawashima Umika, who featured in the drama, "Kaibutsu-kun" (Monster Boy), also starring an member from super popular idol group Arashi. Needless to say, for this reason alone, it became hugely popular (despite it being shit. No I haven't watched but that is unnecessary hehe!).
And there's not much else to be said from me about this idol group.
Hey all, finally I've managed to subtitle another video.
The university semester has restarted and I've moved back into my parent's house on the Gold Coast, so there has been slightly less time to work on precious subs.
Even so! I will not stop! lol
This time around I've subbed a show I've never done before (and no one else for that matter!). I:m sure you'll thoroughly enjoy it though. It's from a 'revival special' episode of the now finished show, Zenigata Kintaro (oft shortened to 'Zenikin'). It was hosted by Neptunes, and featured 'Supporters', including Cream Stew, Azumax and Tsuchida Teruyuki, who go and meet poor people and report on how they live with little to no money. Each of the encounters are hilarious to say the least, although you do feel a bit sorry for the people they meet as they get teased and made fun of a lot (except a lot of them are just plain weird).
Unfortunately, basically no episodes of this show from when it was still running exist, and only two 'revival specials' which were broadcasted in the past year or so are available. These episodes go for 2 hours or but I've only had time to sub one encounter this time (approx 20 min), so naturally I chose the talented Arita Teppei who we all know from Shabekuri fame.
Needless to say, tears of laughter are almost guaranteed with this guy.

I'll be going on a holiday for around 2~3 weeks in July and so I'm trying to get as much as I can done before I go. There won't be any videos coming out during that time I'm afraid.
So here's another Shabekuri finally, after a month or so. Actually it's only a half episode. The other half featured the impersonation pro, Aramaki Yoko, which I subbed several months ago. This one however, is has a female comedian named Watanabe Naomi. She became famous a few years back for her "impersonation" of Beyonce. All she does actually is lipsync and dance to song. SHUMAI
Shumai are Chinese pork dumplings. Wikipedia. There is a China Town in Yokohama and so that's probably why they were saying "shumai= Yokohama".
ORIGIN BENTO
A popular chain bento shop. Bento is a Japanese lunch in a box. They also give you the option to choose your own lunch contents from a range of side dishes.
Another Shabekuri 007 episode for everyone. It's the second appearance of the actress, Ayase Haruka. If you haven't seen the first one yet then you might want to watch that before this. It's on my blog somewhere. Anyway, it's much of the same Shabekuri randomness in this episode.
I don't think there was much to write about for the translation notes? Well actually I just can't be bothered this time around. If there's anything that you want some clarification or more info about then just let me know.
I've finished another Shabekuri sub. This was one that I was looking forward to putting out, although I dunno.....I don't think my subs did a great job to make it as funny as it is. It's funnier if you actually understand what they're saying (obviously) but I think you need to be able to see their faces for this episode in particular. I dunno. May be I just watched it too many times and so it didn't seem as funny when I was doing the last subtitle check. Meh, whatever.
Anyhow, this episode is the second appearance of Kitagawa Keiko. Check the first appearance if you haven't already (here). Although this was a requested video, it was also mainly after watching this episode and the one broadcasted the week after with Watanabe Ken, that I decided that I had to start subbing the Shabekuri series. That was almost a year ago so yeah, took a while for me to do this one strangely. This was meant to be the first one but then Ken Watanabe got in the way. And then a tonne of requests lol. GARLIC INJECTIONS
These aren't injections of garlic juices, although it sounds like it. It's actually a vitamin packed injection such as B1 vitamins, and gets its name from the strong smell it produces. Of what? Garlic of course.
KONNYAKU
Also known as conjac or devils tongue. It's a flavourless jelly like food made from a conjac plant. In Japanese cuisine, it is used as filler food in noodles, hot pots and various other stew/soup type foods.

Kitagawa Keiko said some foods that she liked such as:
Yakiniku: An Asian styled barbecue where thin slices of meats are cooked on a small grill, which is usually placed in the middle of a table.
Meat patty: In Japan it's called "Hamburg". Basically it's a hamburger patty with some kind of sauce on it, usually demigras sauce.
Gyudon: Is a bowl of rice with beef slices, onions and some other stuff with in a soy sauce based flavouring.
FIREWORKS
That firework sound effect was learned from Aoki Ryuji (an impersonation entertainer) when he appeared on the show. This episode will also be subbed sometime in the future. So stay tuned....

Haruna Ai is a transgender TV personality who initially became popular for an "air imitation" of the idol, Matsuura Aya. It's "air imitation" because it's just lip syncing. She/ he has been crowned Miss International Queen 2009 for transexuals so is quite hard to tell as actually being male.
GABI~N
ガビーン is an onomatopoeia for a bad shock or surprise. It became popular sometime in the Showa Period, probably in the 70's or 80's. You often see it and similar words like "Ga-n" and "Gacho-n" in anime and manga nowadays.
OPAPI~
This is some kinda new word that a comedian called Kojima Yoshio made up. It's an abbreviation of "Ocean Pacific Peace" which means.........something. Probably. There was a video of it with Eng subs on youtube which is handy.
CHIBI MARUKO-CHAN
Taizo said that he feels like going "Weaaaah!" when someone says "Each an everyone♪" (Or "Each and everything" to be exact). This is referring to the theme song from the popular cartoon, Chibi Maruko-chan (Tiny Maruko). It's the first line after listening to the intro so if you're interested, here it is.....
CASTERA
Castera is a simple sweet cake that is popular as a gift in Japan. It originally came from a cake that Portuguese merchants brought over to Japan in the 16th Century. Back then Portugal was part of the Spanish kingdom of Castile, which was pronounced as Castella in the Portuguese language. That's where the name comes from. As it's a Japanese rendition of something that was brought into the country, this cake doesn't actually exist in Portugal, although there may be something similar. I don't know.
SHOCHU
Is an alcoholic beverage usually made form barley, rice or sweet potatoes but can be from a few other things too. It's quite a strong drink with most having about 25% alcohol in it. For more info see Wikipedia
DOUBLE EYELID
A double eyelid is an eyelid that has two folds. Many Asian people have only one fold, but tend to find the double fold more attractive. There are now many make up products to make it look like you've got double fold lids though...
WATAMI
Watami 和民 is a popular izakaya chain store. An Izakaya is a Japanese styled tavern, where you can book tatami floored private rooms to use with your friends, work colleagues etc. Izakaya at wikipedia
MAMA CHARI
I translated this as a "mom bicycle" or something in the video. It's basically a bicycle with a basket attached to the front. It's often associated with mums as they ride these when they go food shopping. Mama= Mom and Chari= is slang for bicycle.
FALLING OVER AT JOKES
There was a part when they all fell out of their chairs because Tokui wouldn't say "Female baths".
This was a thing popularised by the comedy group, "The Drifters" back in the 1970's. It's done when there's like a "What the hell?" kind of moment. This is also often done in anime and stuff. I'm not sure if people from other countries also get that kind of feeling though. It's like when you stumble after hear something unbelievable. Well, I've never actually seen that in real life but you read it in books and stuff.
The Drifters were like the Monty Python of Japan and its members are the creators of a lot of gags and stuff popular in Japan.
IKKO
Another cross dressing male make up artist, also popular as a TV personality. Not sure about anything interesting regarding his life though.

Is a famous zen Buddhist monk from the 1400's. He's very famous for being an eccentric vagabond, and unlike usual monks. See wikipedia for more

It has been a while since my last post. I have been busy with university, and still am to be honest, but have very quickly done a video so that I don't make you wait too long. It's another Shabekuri 007 episode, this time it's one that I chose rather than a request (these seem to be increasing lately). Sorry, but it's easier to be motivated if it's something I want to do. I"m sure you'll understand anyway. If not then too bad I suppose.
Well anyway, this episode features two Japanese national team soccer players (or more correctly "football", unless if you're American or Australian or Japanese that is...). One is Nagatomo Yuto, a side back who now plays for Inter Milan, one of the most famous teams in the world (but also hated for various reasons). The second is Okazaki Shinji, a prolific goalscorer (for the national team anyway) who currently plays regularly for the German club, Stuttgart. He plays as midfielder for Stuttgart however, so that may be a reason for less goals. Maybe.
There has been a sudden rise in the quality of Japanese players after the World Cup 2010, and there seems to be a Golden Team in the making with more and more players being scouted by European clubs. Even the women's team impressively became World Champions last year and the future of Japanese football is looking bright with many promising youngsters also being found one after the other. There's going to be a Japan vs Australia match near where I live in June......not sure who to support. Probably Japan but either way I gotta go!
SAMUEL ETO'O
Is a world famous striker from Cameroon. He is one of the greatest players ever in the game, and has one the African Player Of The Year Award numerous times. He was playing for Inter Milan at the time but moved to an ultra rich Russian team for an uber-mega-bucks contract.

KAGAWA SHINJI
Is another Japanese person playing in Germany. After being signed as an virtual unknown by Borussia Dortmund for a very small price, he has quickly developed into what most people consider their most important player and also one of the most spotlighted stars around the world.
MATSUKO DELUXE
Has appeared briefly in a few shows that I've subbed, or at least mentioned. He or she, whichever you think he/she deserves to be referred as, is a popular TV personality for his scathing and direct comments regarding various topics and people. Since Japanese TV usually tries to keep everything all rosy and cheery like Sesame Street, people like her are a breath of fresh air at times.
OKONOMIYAKI
Is a trademark food from the Kansai region, which includes places like Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto etc. It means. お好み焼き's "Konomi" 好み, means "(Things that you/I) Like" while "Yaki" 焼き means 'fried/cooked'. So basically it means "stuff you like, cooked". True to the name, people try putting many things into okonomiyaki, although the outcome is basically the same taste unless if you put in something totally outlandish. Well that's what I think anyway. No, I don't like it that much, although every other Japanese person seems to love it.

SOUHTERN ALL STARS
Are a one of the most famous and influential pop/rock bands in Japan. Formed in the mid 70's and lead by the singer, Kuwata Keisuke, they brought a more Western feel to Japanese music. One significant thing that is usually thought to have been originated form this band is the stylised pronunciations of words when singing. For example, changing the 'ら り る れ ろ' letters to be pronounced as 'ra, ri, ru, re, ro' rather than the proper Japanese way (which I can't really write in English letters....as it doesn't exist). In general this and other changes to the pronunciation made the language more flexible and more ably suited for different styles of music.
MOCHI-TSUKI
This is the process of hammering mochi-gome (Sticky rice) with a large wooden hammer. There are usually one or two people hammering and another person to turn the mochi around in between hammer strikes. This is all done rhythmically over and over again, and skilled people will do it at a very fast pace. It's slightly harder than it looks, especially if for the one turning over the mochi as it can be very hot and must be done quickly or your hand will be pounded by the incoming hammers.
KANPUMASATSU
I just wrote this as "dry towel body scrubbing" or something on the video because.....well that's what it is.
Here's an explanation of what it is and why they do it:
Ashuraman is a character off the popular manga Kinniku-man. He has three faces; one on the front, and one on each side of his head. That's why he was mentioned by Ueda.
Here's another requested Shabekuri 007. It's only the second half of the 2011.10.24 episode featuring Aramaki Yoko. The guest before her was Watanabe Naomi, a young female comedian, which was moderately funny but wasn't requested/couldn't be bothered. (-_-). If someone wants it, they can request it, although I'm sure there are many more that are much better to do instead.
'Monomane' means impersonations and is a much more popular form of entertainment in Japan than most other countries. I don't know why though. They even have annual competitions at the end of the year and a few others throughout to decide who the best 'monomane' artist in Japan is. They type of monomane artists can usually be broken up into two categories, a comedic or a serious one. Comedic ones are usually originally comedians who have discovered that they have a knack for impersonating and so then make skits and such involving famous people. The serious type however, sing seriously and usually have good singing skills too.
This current guest, Aramaki Yoko, falls under the 'serious type' and is quite a newcomer to the business. However, she has quickly risen to the top grade group for her singing abilities and skill at capturing the distinct peculiarities of the voices she impersonates. You probably won't know most of the people she does impersonate, but I can tell you confidently that she is very good.

Here's another episode from Shabekuri 007, this time featuring Kitagawa Keiko. She started off as a model in popular teen girl magazine and became on of its biggest stars before moving onto the world of acting. The only drama that I've watched with her in (I don't watch a whole lot though) was the basketball based, Buzzer Beat with Yamashita Tomohisa aka Yamapi. She has become quite popular recently and scored some roles with Sakurai Sho from Arashi in a drama and a movie based on a Yazawa Ai manga with Mukai Osamu.
I've finished subtitling the requested Shabekuri 007 episode featuring child star Ashida Mana and actress Kurashina Kana. As usual, this episode is also hilarious and I had fun subbing it.
The first guest, Ashida Mana is the top child star at the moment in Japan after she shot to stardom with her role in the drama series 'Mother'. The story is about a woman that cares fora a child that she found dumped in the trash. Ashida Mana played the abandoned child, and ability at acting was praised for being extremely impressive for a child. I haven't watched it completely, but my parents did, so I heard and saw bits and pieces of it. One part that I did see, was a very emotional scene and I remember he doing very well... Well anyway, she's an adorable little kid as you will see, if you watch this video. Hopefully all this fuss doesn't go to her head and mess her up.....
The second guest, Kurashina Kana is a moderately famous actress. I don't really know much about her to be honest. The first time I heard of her was when I watched this episode...so I can't really tell you much about her. She's from Kumamoto, a prefecture in the southern state of Kyushu, where they speak a peculiar kind of dialect. Well almost all prefectures have dialects (especially those in Kyushu) but this one is really quite hard to understand. You'll get to hear some of it if you watch this episode yo!

DO DO SKO SKO SKO~!!
Nagura did this to show how energetic he is when he's playing with his kids. It's actually a gag that is done by Tanoshingo, a male homosexual comedian/personality. There isn't really any meaning to it as far as I'm aware. It's just strange. Here's a 3 minute continuous replay of it lol.......it's very annoying.
PEKO-CHAN
Peko-chan is the mascot character for Fujiya, a confectionery chain store. It sells all sorts of sweets, cakes, cookies etc etc, and is very popular.
KABUKI AGE & MIYAKO KONBU
When asked what her favourite sweets are, Mana-chan answered "Kabuki age and Miyako konbu". I translated these as "Deep fried crackers" and "Sour Kelp".....because well that's what they basically are. There are actually lots and lots of different types of rice crackers in Japan (YUUM!!) and Kabuki Age is one of those. Kabuki is the traditional form of Japanese acting. Back in the past, 'acting' would have meant doing kabuki. It's completely different to what we see as 'acting' today. The reason it lends its name to this rice cracker is that it has imprints of the coat of arms of Kabuki. Coats of Arms in Japan are usually a lot simpler than ones from Europe so don't be confused with the picture. Here's a before and after frying pic.
Sour kelp (kelp= thick seaweed) is a traditional sweet that maybe flavoured in various ways, but has a rice vinegar base. One of the most popular brands of this is Miyako Konbu.
KANSAI & HYOGO PREFECTURE
Kansai is a region of Japan, which includes Japan's 2nd biggest city, Osaka, and two of it's old capital cities (Kyoto + Nara), as well as some other prefectures. One of those is Hyogo Prefecture, which is where the city of Kobe is located. You may have heard of Kobe beef before? Anyway that's where they originate from. Kobe is a port city, and so has a history of having relations with other countries, and even now many foreigners do business there. The people of Kansai have a distinctly different dialect to those of Tokyo, who speak the 'normal dialect'. Although they learn Japanese in the normal dialect at school, for casual talk they will revert back to this local style. These dialects differ depending on the region of Kansai, but generally they convert "Da" the shortened version of "Desu" into "ya", and then add on "nen" or "n" if asking a question
(so: something something~yanen?). However, language is a very complex thing and doesn't necessarily follow the same rules every time so it's hard to explain it. So I won't. Well in terms of grammar anyway. They have their own words that don't exist in normal Japanese as well. The most famous ones would be "Honma" (real), "Ookini" (Thank you)......and many more but it's going to make this explanation too long....すんまへん
KODAMA
The Kodama is a model of bullet train that runs between Kansai and Tokyo.
RUBY CHARACTERS
You could probably understand what ruby characters are supposed to be from the video but I'll show you anyway. They're also called 'Furi-gana' in Japanese.
JAPANESE TV INDUSTRY TERMINOLOGY
They went through a list of industry terms but only explained about 2 of them. Winding up (巻いてる. Maiteru): Means that they are pressed for time and trying to finish quickly.
Pushing (押してる. Oshiteru): Means to begin the show later than the planned time.
Superior, Anterior (上手, 下手. Kamite, Shimote): Superior is the right side and anterior means the left side for positions of things, such as people lined up in a row.
Waste (ウエス Uesu): This is actually pronounced Uesu and is shortened from the English word 'Waste' so would equal 'Wase' or something in English. It refers to a small white or organic coloured cloth that can be used for various things. In the mechanical industry however, it refers to old rags for wiping oil off machinery.
Laugh (わらう Warau): Although they explained this in the video, I found the reason behind it interesting. As said in the vid, it means to tidy away unneeded props. However, before it was unneeded, someone may have spent a lot of time and effort setting it up (although that would depend on what it is...). And so although it may feel like a waste to get rid of it, all you can do is "laugh it off" as it is now unnecessary and will just get in the way of the show.
CHIKUZEN- NI
Chikuze-ni is a Japanese dish that usually consists of vegetables and sometimes a little bit of meant boiled in the typical Japanese flavouring of soy sauce, rice wine and sugar etc. Typically used vegetables are bamboo shoots, mushrooms, lotus roots and burdock roots. It also often has Konnyaku (also known as Konjac or Devil's tongue in English), which is a jelly like substance.
KONNYAKU
CASTERA
Castera is a simple sweet cake that is popular as a gift in Japan. It originally came from a cake that Portuguese merchants brought over to Japan in the 16th Century. Back then Portugal was part of the Spanish kingdom of Castile, which was pronounced as Castella in the Portuguese language. That's where the name comes from. As it's a Japanese rendition of something that was brought into the country, this cake doesn't actually exist in Portugal, although there may be something similar. I don't know.
KARA
At the end of the Mana-chan section they danced to a song by KARA, a korean idol girl group. This song was a big hit in Japan, mainly for the dance that they do, which is basically shaking around their buttocks
KUMAMOTO
Kumamoto is a prefecture in Kyushu the southern state island of Japan. Here's a very simplified version of Kyushu. It is home to Kumamoto Castle, one of the top three Japanese castles. I've been there before, and its absolutely massive.
SQUID INK PASTA
In Japan they use squid ink in a number of dishes. I'm not really sure why though. It doesn't really make it taste good or anything, in my opinion at least. One is pasta, and another is paella. I ...think some Mediterranean countries also use squid ink (??) but I'm not sure. Maybe if someone is from around there or knows about it, you can tell me?
