Video Subbing: Ultraman Monster Audition on MECHAx2 IKETERU! (2009.12.05)

Hey everyone, it has been a while.
About a week I think?

Anyway, I've finally finished a video that I'd like you to watch.
It's from Mecha-mecha Iketeru (aka Mechaike), a popular show hosted by comedy duo, Ninetynine. I've done an episode from this show before (Idols Not Including AKB Sports Carnival) which was unfortunately already subbed, so I wasted my time with that. I'm pretty sure this one hasn't been subbed though.

It features famous monsters from the Ultraman series, a tokusatsu hero show for young boys. I used to watch this when I lived in Japan (until age of 5) and I've still got heaps of toys of them at home lol. Hopefully there are some Ultraman fans that check out this blog, as I'm sure you'll have fun with this one. Even if you don't know anything about them, it's still entertaining enough. I hope.

Oh, I should mention that you'll see the word "Seijin" a few times in the vid. This means "alien" or "person from star". If it's put on the end of a name, like Pressure Seijin, it's like adding an ~ian or ~ese in English. For example. Pressurian, Japanese, Martian etc.

TRANSLATION NOTES

THANKYOU! IT'S GOOD MEDICINE!
This is the slogan for Ohta Isan, stomach medicine. I suppose Okamura used it for his sickness.
Here's a fairly strange commercial from the 1980's for the product.

GACHINKO FIGHT CLUB
This was a popular reality show about training young nobodies into professional boxers. There are some videos on youtube but no subs.

DOKUMAMUSHI SANDAYU
Was an actor, and played a member of Daisuke Arashi, a member of the Science Patrol Squad in the original Ultraman series (in the 1960's). He's also known for using vulgar language, and has a radio show that is popular with older people.

KINPACHI SENSEI
Is an extremely famous drama series about a passionate teacher trying to help is class 3-B, which is full of students with various problems. It gets mentioned all over the place on TV, manga etc etc. Everything. It's one of the biggest pop culture things in Japan.

MUTOU KEIJI
Is one of the most famous Japanese wrestlers ever. I don't know much, but apparently he was one of the firs Japanese wrestlers to gain popularity in America. He has a signature pose that is very well known, and was what Magma Seijin impersonated in the vid.

    1. Yeah, I'd also like to sub that. The problem is that its very long so I'll have to do it when I've got more time. Hopefully I'll be able to sometime in the future

  3. Ahh this looks like fun!! Is this the group that tricks different kinds of celebrities into taking a pop exam in a classroom, and then they determine who among them is the dumbest based on their answers? I remember watching it a while ago thinking they were pretty funny. At least I think it's them, I'm Ninetynine% (Bahahahaha) sure it's them...

Anyways thanks for subbing and sharing~~! Hope you've been well!

    1. Yeah it is the same show. They were a lot funnier around the time of the episode you probably watched. They've toned down a lot now, but this is a funny one among most of their recent stuff.

  4. The Great Mutoh~!

The thing with Mutoh wasn't just that he got popular in the US, he was a heavyweight that came in, dominated, and bled like a mofo. Having a wrestler bleed for effect in a match started getting rated on what was called the "Mutoh scale".

He won the WCW heavyweight title in the US, twice I think, before going back to japan to just dominate there too. And yes, wrestling is scripted, but even silent he had a charisma in the wring that let southern white bookers make this big asian dude their main star, twice. He is awesome :D

    1. Oh really? That's interesting. I know very little about wrestling so it's good to know that some Japanese pro wrestlers are also as popular as that in America. Thanks!

  5. This one was subbed, but it was like 5 years ago and the video has been lost. I remember watching it when i got into japanese variety shows like Gaki no tsukai, mechaike and so on. But it was like a 10 minut clip which was subbed. I tryed my best finding this one subbed again but no luck. There was tons of content on youtube 5-6 years ago which was subbed sadly most of it is lost now.
