Video Subbing: Matsumoto Hitoshi's Suberanai Hanashi Vol.1
Howdy, how are you? Hope everything's good.
Sooo here I come with another video subbing, and this time it's one that I chose to do myself rather than a request. The show I subbed is Matsumoto Hitoshi's Suberanai Hanashi, or just Suberanai Hanashi, as often shortened down to.
Basically it's a show where a group of comedians sit around a table and tells stories that are guaranteed to make you laugh. Well that's the aim anyway.
'Suberanai' is the negative of the word 'Suberu', which literally means 'to slip'. (So subernai= don't slip). In comedic terms it used to refer to a situation where a joke fails to get laughs. You can think of it as the person 'slipping up' in English I suppose. 'Suberu' can also be used outside comedy too such as when you fail an exam or mess up a speech.
Anyway, these guys have gathered to tell their 'suberanai' stories and although my subtitles may affect whether you laugh or not, they certainly made me laugh listening to them in Japanese.
*I will not be uploading on megaupload. Sorry about that.
It will be on dailymotion in a few days ~ 1 week

Deletewell then in case you didn't know there's a torrent somewhere with the whole Suberanai collection since the 1st one aired in 2004. Also in FTP download but it would highly recommend using he torrent if there are sources, cause the collection is like 32 or 36 G's. The latest episodes are in a very decent quality.
DeleteThanks~
Deleteyour endeavors are surely appreciated by fans everywhere!
ReplyDeleteThanks and you're welcome!
DeleteI have been waiting for someone to sub this series. I am so happy to see that you did it. Thanks for the hard work and I am looking forward to seeing more. Being an American, now I can enjoy it with my Japanese wife. Good job.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I really like hearing about people enjoying this with their family! Thank you.
DeleteThanks so much for translating this! My Japanese isn't 100% so I often miss out on little bits of info, the show is twice as funny if you can completely understand each story =)
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I hope you continue to study Japanese so you can understand it (and other shows)
DeleteThank you very much for subbing this awesome show. This tipe of comedy was unknown for me and my family but thanks to your kind effort we can meet this comedy genius. Saludos desde México.
ReplyDeleteGlad you and your family enjoy this!
DeleteIt's really nice that you can all watch and laugh.
:D Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeletePretty funny except for one part. Why is it funny that she's a lesbian...? Is Japan really homophobic or something?
ReplyDeleteWe~ll, I wouldn't say that they're particularly homophobic but it is quite hidden, and it is seen as 'abnormal' usually. That's slowly changing though, as it is around the world.
DeleteI suppose it's because people don't usually go out of their way to tell someone that their sister is lesbian so they laughed out of surprise and unexpectedness.
From then on it was just like "You're saying that again?" sort of laughs.
They weren't looking down on the sister or anything.
However, I've seen Matsumoto express disgust towards gay tv personalities and stuff. He might be homophobic. Or it's just an exaggerated reaction for the cameras. I don't know.
Ok, thanks. Kinda bums me out that Matsumoto might be homophobic though.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for you to translate hyodo daiki's story called 一等兵 from suberanai hanashi and chihara junior's 亀のクラッシュ?? Thoes are the best! Thank you very much in advance! :)
