Video Subbing: T.M. REVOLUTION on HEYx3 MUSIC CHAMP (1996)

Here's a video of T.M. REVOLUTION on his first visit to the music show Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ all the way back in 1996. It's pretty funny but kind of hard to make sense of in English....I think? Well that's how I felt when translating it. Anyway I've done my best to make it understandable, and have also translated the song Heart of Sword -Yoake  Mae (Before Dawn)- that he performs after a little talk with Downtown. It's usually hard translating songs because they often don't use proper sentence structures and use unusual words etc etc but I think I've got it to make sense. So.............enjoy

TRANSLATION NOTES
SHIGA, OSAKA AND OKINAWA
These are both areas of Japan. Shiga prefecture is a rural area surrounded by mountains and also holds Japan's biggest lake, Lake Biwa. Osaka on the other hand is the second biggest city in Japan and bustling life. You may not have realised, but Japan actually has quite a lot of different accents or dialects, and this is also the case with Shiga and Osaka. The 'proper' Japanese that is spoken in Tokyo is called 'Hyoujungo' 標準語, and is the language taught at schools. Even so, local dialects still exist and differ depending on where you live, although there may be some similarities too. These different dialects are generally referred by the area of which is spoken, with 弁 '-ben' on the end, like Kansai-Ben 関西弁 (dialect spoken in Kansai area, which also includes Osaka) or Oumi-Ben 近江弁 (Shiga prefecture dialect). Generally these dialects have different intonations of words, and finish sentences differently. For example, in Hyoujungo, if you ask "Why is that" it would be "Nande desuka?". In the Kansai/Osaka dialect it would become "Nande yanen?". I'm not sure about Oumi-ben but I'm assuming it's similar to Kansai-ben since Downtown found his intonation similar to theirs. On top of that, Shiga prefecture is actually in the Kansai region so they probably share some characteristics.

Okinawa is small island in between Japan and Taiwan. Many celebrities come from their as a lot have mixed blood which generally gives them attractive looks that are considered slightly exotic. They also have a distinct accent which is also much stronger and harder to understand than most other places. Actually, they have their own language too.

YOJI DESUYO~ (IT'S 4 O'CLOCK!)
Yoji Desuyo~ was a live TV show hosted by Downtown in the 1980's. It was a local show only shown in the Kansai region, and was what propelled them to super star status in the area. They became so popular that they even had legions of girls chasing them around, as back in that time, the two were considered quite handsome. This was actually the reason that they quit the show however, as they were concerned about the fact that they got laughs from these fan girls even if their jokes weren't funny at all. In order to improve themselves even further and expand their career they moved on to Tokyo where they became even bigger stars.

5 YEN AND 10 YEN COINS
Matsumoto pointed out that T.M and Daisuke's hair colours were like 5 yen and 10 yen coins.

NAMIE NAMIE
When they were pretending T.M was a female idol he called himself 'Namie Namie'. This was in reference the popular singer Amuro Namie, who was at her peak in popularity around that time. She's from Okinawa.....
